AJK College Hosts 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2024 to Promote Nutrition Awareness
AJK College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore (Autonomous), an A+ Accredited Institution by NAAC, successfully organized the 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2024 on September 27, 2024. This event was held in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) Madukkarai Block, focusing on promoting nutrition awareness and public health, particularly for women and adolescent girls. This initiative aligns with the goals of the national Poshan Abhiyan, a significant effort to combat malnutrition across India.
The college’s involvement in the 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah underscores its commitment to community welfare and academic excellence. Supporting national programs like Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and the Prime Minister's Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition (POSHAN) Abhiyaan, this initiative by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) aims to empower women and adolescents through nutrition education, fostering a healthier, well-nourished India.
The event was honoured by the presence of Ms. M. Shrieenithi, Child Development Project Officer, Madukkarai Block, Coimbatore, alongside Ms. Parameswari S. and Ms. Saranya K. from the World Community Service Centre (WCSC), Coimbatore. Their speeches highlighted the critical role of nutrition in child development and women's health, focusing on dietary interventions to combat malnutrition and foster overall growth.
The event featured engaging Nutrition Month activities designed to educate the community about the importance of balanced nutrition. Highlights included an Exhibition on Women's Health, which provided valuable insights into the nutritional needs of women, and a Lecture on Nutrition Education that emphasized the role of a healthy diet in maintaining overall well-being. These activities reinforced the need for a holistic approach to nutrition, addressing various stages of life and health challenges.
Interactive elements, such as the Signature Campaign, encouraged participants to pledge their commitment to spreading nutrition awareness. The Palm Printing session symbolized collective responsibility toward ensuring nutritional security. Furthermore, a Millets Food Demonstration for adolescent girls showcased the nutritional benefits of incorporating millets into daily diets, promoting healthier eating habits and improved well-being for young women.
